Scope

XAS Beamlines in High Demand

Chemistry and Materials Science represent a significant portion of the research activity at several XAS beamlines of the ESRF. These beamlines are heavily oversubscribed, which results in the excellent scientific quality of the proposals that are awarded beamtime.

Data Analysis: A Key Challenge

There is growing interest in XAS from new user groups who present strong scientific cases but often have limited experience with X-ray spectroscopy. As a result, visiting users may not always have the expertise required to conduct experiments efficiently or to carry out high-quality data analysis.

Hands-on XAS Training Now Available

The lack of XAS training remains one of the major bottlenecks in the beamtime-to-publication pipeline. This new course aims to address this issue by providing fundamental XAS training and hands-on data analysis coaching for users who have recently conducted XAS experiments at the ESRF in the fields of chemistry and materials science and are currently analyzing their data.

Application deadline: 20/12/2025

Tips for a Successful Application
In your application, please submit a short motivation letter, describing why you would like to participate in the course. In particular, please mention:
•    The scientific case and experimental details of the experiment conducted at the ESRF:  absorption edges, techniques (XANES, EXAFS, XES, etc), sample environment
•    The current state of the data analysis
•    The difficulties that you encountered during the data analysis and particular points where you would need input from the experts during the XAS course

I wish to submit my application

The number of participants is limited, selection will be carried out by the organizing committee. Priority will be given to the applicants who have performed XAS experiment at the ESRF within the last five years and are currently analysing their data.

The participation in the course is free of charge. Accommodation in the guesthouse and meals will be covered by the ESRF.

Only participants who are fully registered will be authorized to enter the EPN Site and to attend the workshop.
