The ESRF has endorsed the European Commission’s Charter for industrial users of research and technology infrastructures, joining the initiative among its early supporters. 

Adopted by the European Commission in July 2026, the Charter aims to make access to Europe’s research and technology infrastructures simpler, faster and more transparent for companies.

It sets out six principles intended to improve the experience of industrial users, covering areas such as clearer access procedures and contractual conditions, tailored support, intellectual property protection, confidentiality and stronger cooperation between research and technology infrastructures across Europe.

By endorsing the Charter, the ESRF reaffirms its commitment to facilitating industrial access to advanced research infrastructure and expertise. Through its dedicated services for industry, the ESRF supports companies in addressing research and innovation challenges using state-of-the-art synchrotron techniques.

The initiative also contributes to broader European efforts to strengthen collaboration between research infrastructures and industry, helping companies access the scientific capabilities, technologies and expertise needed to support innovation and competitiveness.
