The RTI Summit 2025 was held in Copenhagen in October 2025 under the Danish EU Presidency.
The RTI Summit 2025 Position Paper: key recommendations for the implementation of the European strategy on RTI across the Member States was developed by Danish Technological Institute and GTS (Godkendt Teknologisk Service), together with more than 20 key European stakeholders, including contributors from ESRF.
The paper argues that turning scientific breakthroughs into industrial solutions requires more than research excellence, it depends on access to world-class testing, demonstration and scale-up facilities. Without them, promising innovations risk remaining confined to the laboratory. making facilities like ESRF essential for bridging the gap between scientific discovery and industrial application.
Addressed to policymakers at both national and European level, the paper calls for concrete action to implement the EU strategy on Research and Technology Infrastructures, with priorities including improved access to facilities across Member States, stronger cross-border collaboration and greater capacity to support the full innovation cycle, from frontier research to industrial deployment.
A more connected RTI ecosystem, the authors argue, is essential to driving innovation and commercialisation, reinforcing European competitiveness and accelerating the green and digital transition.
The paper was supported by the European Commission and the Novo Nordisk Foundation.
