The next ESRF proposal submission deadline is on:

Thursday 10th September 2026 at 17:00 hrs
(French/Central European Summer Time)

The access modes available for this deadline are:

  • Standard proposals:
for beamtime in the 2027-I scheduling period (March to July 2027)
  • BAG and MX BAG proposals:
for beamtime in the 2027-I and 2027-II scheduling periods (March 2027 to February 2028)

Note that the 5pm deadline time is in working hours and that proposal submission will not be accepted after this date/time.

Proposals will be submitted using the ESRF User Portal, and we urge you not to wait for the deadline to write or to submit your proposal.

Available beamlines: The beamline status for this proposal deadline can be found here. You are strongly encouraged to contact the beamline managers to discuss your proposal before submission.

Multi-Project Proposals:
A multi-project proposal is a Standard proposal that groups multiple projects, from the same or different groups and requiring a similar experimental setup, in order to efficiently use a single full week (18 shifts) of beamtime. MPPs are limited to a single proposal round, as for regular Standard proposals. More information along with the list of participating beamlines can be found here.

Reporting and publications:

1) Experiment reports: the report submission deadline is 15th September 2026.

The proposals show a record of past beamtime allocation to the proposal team, along with the status of submission of the experiment report(s) for each proposal. Reports must be submitted by this deadline for the status to appear correctly in any new proposal when sent to the reviewers. Note that the reviewers are informed when no beamtime has been used yet for a proposal and that therefore no report is expected.

2) Annual reports for BAGs and MX BAGs: the report must be submitted before any submission of a BAG continuation proposal.

3) Publications: your ESRF publications must be registered in the Library database and linked to your "My Publications" list in the User Portal before the submission of your proposal. The same applies for your co-investigators.

Review panels pay particular attention to publications resulting from use of ESRF beamtime. Your ESRF publications are now displayed automatically in proposals where you are Principal or Co-Investigator, based on your "My Publications" list in your User Portal account. Please therefore check that your list is up-to-date (tab "My Profile/Accounts" then "My Publications").
See our webpage for more details and instructions.

We remind you to ensure that you associate the relevant proposal number(s) and ESRF beamline(s) to your ESRF publications when registering them in the ESRF Library database as this information is used for automatic reporting on proposals.
