The EIC aims to identify research breakthrough technologies and innovative solutions and support their maturation and market outreach by providing funding, facilitating access to scaling up services, enabling win-win partnerships and acquisition of investment, among others.

In 2022, the EIC launched a two-year programme called Ecosystem Partnerships and Co-investment Support, with the goal of providing sector-specific and niche services and investment opportunities to EIC Beneficiaries.

The ESRF and the European Innovation Council and SME Executive Agency (EISMA) have just signed a Memorandum of Understanding that brings to life this collaboration. In particular, the ESRF will offer five tailor-made services for EIC beneficiaries, such as consultancy to support innovation using advanced analytical techniques and fast-track advanced synchrotron X-ray analytics and materials characterisation.

"Through this MoU, the ESRF supports the use of X-rays by European industry and boosts Europe's competitiveness in ground-breaking domains by simplifying the access of the EIC innovators to ESRF-Extremely Brilliant Source.", say Gema Martínez-Criado and Michael Krisch, directors of research at the ESRF.

Ed Mitchell, head of the business development office, adds: “EIC is the gateway to European deep-tech enterprises, especially disruptive SMEs, and by partnering with the EIC, ESRF can better reach out to this rapidly developing innovation ecosystem".
