Scientific Capabilities & Techniques
In 2026, the BM07 sample environment has been thoroughly improved with a new diffractometer and most systems available at all times.

High throughput diffraction screening of frozen crystal
A Flex-HCD robotized sample changer, equipped with a dual gripper allows rapid mounting of crystals at cryogenic temperature on the goniometer. The storage Dewar can host 17 Unipucks. Vials have to be « Mitegen » or « Molecular Dimension » types.
Diffraction data collection at fixed wavelength
A MD2 goniometer is available for data collection on frozen crystals, room temperature crystals (with humidity controlled air flow), or crystals in capillaries.
Anomalous diffraction experiments
Selection of the wavelength between 6 to 20 keV. Note that the change of wavelength takes around 30 min and requires the help of a beamline scientist.
X-ray fluorescence spectrometer
X-ray fluorescence spectrum can me measured with a Roentec X-Flash multi channel analyzer. This is required for the proper choice of wavelengths during an anomalous diffraction experiment, but can be used also for the detection of metal atoms in your protein.
On-line UV-Vis absorption spectroscopy
A UV-vis micro-spectrophotometer is available at all times.
In-line light injection
An SMA port is available for sample light injection (to trigger reactions)
On demand
Humidity controlled experiments
Humidity controlled air flow is available on request.
Nano droplet injector
A nano droplet injector can be used. (e.g. ligand injection)
High pressure cell
A vertical gonio stag is available for heavy systems such as a High Pressure Cell (collab. with IBS lab)
