Industry-led research is accelerating, fuelling

demand for in-depth materials and component

analysis across multiple scales. ESRF-EBS has

redefined what’s possible, combining exceptional

brilliance and stability with advanced automation

and intelligent workflows to deliver high-speed

characterisation at unrivalled resolution, scale,

and accessibility.

For industry, this means robust data from hundreds

or even thousands of samples, providing the

statistical insights essential for manufacturing

and defect analysis. High-throughput capabilities

and powerful data processing pipelines have

made workflows even faster, smarter, and more

comprehensive. A recent highlight was the detection

of micron-scale defects in a two-metre component

– a capability that was previously unimaginable.

New commercial access routes and partnerships

extend the impact of ESRF-EBS. A collaboration

with BASF has launched a new era of high-

throughput X-ray diffraction at beamline ID31,

with a fully automated system analysing over

3000 battery cathode samples per hour pictured

Samples can be mailed in with preprocessed data

accessed remotely offering streamlined solutions

for sectors such as electric vehicles and electronics

This breakthrough also inspired the creation of

Momentum Transfer a startup providing remote

access diffraction and materials analysis services

across industries from alloys to agrochemicals

turning cuttingedge synchrotron science into

tangible industrial innovation

As dedicated industrial services and beamlines

come online, ESRF-EBS is strengthening its
