EXPANDING ACCESS FOR

COLLABORATIVE RESEARCH

18 I ESRF-EBS: SCIENCE THAT SERVES

Harnessing the unprecedented

capabilities of ESRF-EBS, the

ESRF is pioneering new access

models that open up entirely

new ways of conducting high-

throughput experiments. These

innovative, community-based

approaches are designed to

foster collaboration, accelerate

discovery, and advance research

in areas of strategic and

societal importance. Two key

mechanisms driving this shift are

HUB and BAG (Block Allocation

Group) proposals, which expand

the user community, promote

scientific synergies, and ensure

the unique potential of ESRF-EBS

is fully realised.

HUBs bring together researchers

addressing major societal

challenges – such as energy and

health – who commit to sharing

resources data and results

By coordinating beamtime and

working collaboratively HUBs

enable faster progress and more

meaningful outcomes in critical

domains
