Marine - Electronics Technician (French)

The ESRF gave me responsibilities from day one. Although that was a bit daunting because unexpected, it’s been very encouraging, making me push myself to do my best.

“I’m a technician in the Instrumentation and Detector Development Division and I joined the ESRF 7 months ago. I never expected that my job would fulfil both career orientations that I’d chosen. I graduated in journalism and worked in Latvia, Montreal and most of black Africa covering humanitarian or political stories or events.  When I went back to Paris, I found work editing videos for a large telecommunications company and  I saw the satisfaction I could get in a more manual, technical environment. After a lot of background research, I retrained and became an electronics technician. At the ESRF I get to use all my skills. I write a lot of technical documentation in English and I organise the production of electronics on various projects. This involves manual work as well as interacting with suppliers or internal teams to manufacture the parts according to the design specifications.

The ESRF gave me responsibilities from day one. Although that was a bit daunting because unexpected, it’s been very encouraging, making me push myself to do my best. I love the freedom that I’m given to do things my own way. In such an international context, it seems generally accepted that there are many ways to obtain the same result, and that one of our main forces lies in our different visions and ways of getting things done.”
