ESRF

news

This year ’ s User Meeting was a great success , marked by strong attendance and , most

encouragingly , a significant presence of young scientists . It clearly highlighted the

transformative impact of the ESRF ’ s Extremely Brilliant Source ( EBS ) , showcasing

both the richness and diversity of the science it enables , as well as the emergence of new

research frontiers .

At a time when , together with my fellow Directors ,

we are actively shaping the ESRF ’ s long - term strategy ,

we know that we can rely on the strength , creativity and

engagement of our scientific community . The energy

and quality of the discussions during the User Meeting

reaffirmed the essential role this community plays in

guiding our future .

This first issue of ESRFnews for 2026 offers a snapshot

of that scientific dynamism . It features an in - depth

focus on high - pressure science at the ESRF ( p16 ) –

an area where the EBS is opening new experimental

opportunities – alongside an article on fertiliser research

( p12 ) , illustrating how the science carried out at the

ESRF contributes to addressing global societal challenges .

Together , these topics reflect the breadth of innovation

driven by our community and the transformative role of

the EBS in shaping the future of science .
