BM08 LISA

The new BLISS Beamline control software has been in operation

since September This upgrade significantly broadens the

experimental possibilities especially by enabling faster data

collection such as quickXAS and mapping streamlining

automated data processing and enhancing the FAIRness of the data

collected at the facility New macros and procedures are being

continuously developed and added to better serve the evolving

needs of the user community

BM28 (XMAS)

In order to use the full potential of the ESRF–EBS, especially the

higher energies available at XMaS, a new Mirion 7-element Ge

detector is now available for spectroscopy studies up to 47 keV. A

long-awaited successful experiment on barium in coral skeletons

was performed by Adrian Finch and Anouk Borst: see tinyurl.

com/bariumcoral.

ESRF Sample Tracking

All sample parcels or dewars sent to the ESRF, whether for

remote experiments or as advance shipments for onsite

experiments, must be declared in the User Portal (Experiment

Session A form) and registered as parcels in the Data Portal

platform before being dispatched via a forwarder. Full details at

https://www.esrf.fr/SampleTransport.

BM30 (FAME)

Each year, the CNRS awards

the “collective crystal” award to

teams of research support and

assistance staff for projects that

exhibit remarkable technical

mastery, cooperation,

applications, innovation and

influence. In 2025, the FAME-

UHD team was among the

winners for its work on X-ray

absorption spectroscopy.

The old u18 in-vacuum

undulator has been replaced

by a new insertion device

CPMU16.4 to expand the

accessible energy range to

10–20 keV (first harmonic).

The commissioning is not yet

complete but has been very

successful so far. At a later

stage an additional 25–40 keV

is envisaged. This will help

users to optimise their

experiments regarding

accessible q-range and XRF-

emission energies/absorption

edges, mitigation of radiation

damage, and penetration of

samples and sample

environments
