The hard X-ray emission

spectrometer has been upgraded

from a single-element photon-

counting to a Pilatus 100 k pixel

detector while maintaining on-the-

fly data collection. Alignment of

the 5 analyser crystals is now

considerably faster, and the larger

surface allows for separation of

the crystal foci if required.

The High-Pressure laboratory for

Macromolecular crystallography HPMX is

continuously expanding its offer of gas

pressure systems available to the ESRFs

large MX community In addition to the already

wellestablished pressure cells for noble

gases mainly He Ar Kr and molecular

oxygen to produce gas derivatives of

macromolecules recent developments

embrace pressure cells dedicated to the

introduction of CO

2

and CH

4

into

macromolecules The presence of CO

2

in

macromolecules can also be checked using

the Raman setup recently installed on ID30B

EWOKS

Ewoks the ESRF Workflow System is having a large impact being implemented at over 25

beamlines Ewoks supports fully automated workflows but can also be used interactively

through a graphical interface either from a local installation or as a web service Partly

funded by STREAMLINE Ewoks is more than just an automation tool as it allows data

processing to be more scientific reproducible and FAIR traceable It contains the

knowledge of dataanalysis experts in different fields using a variety of scientific algorithms

and tools and therefore allows nonexperts to use it For more information go to ewoksesrffr

Cryo-electron tomography (cryo-ET)

is an advanced imaging technique

allowing the visualisation and study of

3D structures of biomolecules within

their native environments at near-

atomic resolution. As of June this year,

CM01 has been offering cryo-ET, and

it has already proven successful. The

technique is available through the

Rolling Access system and is also

now integrated in the Solution-tO-

Structure SOS pipeline for non

cellular samples See esrffrCM01

ID19

Microtomography is available for fast access at the two

tomography set-ups, both integrated in the robotic sample-

changer hardware. For high resolution, pixel sizes of 0.6 µm

(10x/0.3NA) and 0.3µm (20x/0.4NA) are available (photon

energies of 19 keV, 26 keV and 35 keV). For medium resolution,

pixel sizes of 1.2 µm (5x/0.14NA) and 2.2 µm / 3.1 µm and

6.4 µm (3x, 2.1x, 1x Hasselblad) are offered (again, 19 keV,

26 keV and 35 keV as well as pink wiggler configurations).

Scientists mail in their samples and use a sample-

changer robot and remote desktop to carry

out the scans. Please contact the

BM31

A unique new end-station (left) provides

combined XRD-PDF with multi-edge XAS

measurements. The optics and end-station

work seamlessly together and switch

automatically between configurations,

allowing the acquisition of high-quality

and highly complementary information

under relevant working conditions in a

single experiment. The detection systems

include a CdTe Pilatus 2M, 16 pre-filled

ion chambers and several fluorescence

detectors. Dedicated ancillary equipment

is available for e.g. heterogeneous catalytic

and battery/electrochemistry experiments.
