X-ray diffraction tomography
Computed tomography (CT), microCT and nanoCT are typically performed with x-ray absorption contrast or with x-ray phase contrast. X-ray scattering, in particular diffraction, can also be used as the basis for reconstruction, and x-ray diffraction tomography provides a map of the variation of crystallographic quantities within the specimen. Here, the focus is on polycrystalline samples with small crystals. After the experimental approach is introduced, examples are covered which illustrate the different quantities that can be mapped with this method. To date, most diffraction tomography has been performed with monochromatic radiation, but recently energy dispersive diffraction has been used for tomography and some first results are presented.
